Beauty — especially in regards to high fashion — often falls outside the realm of convention. So perhaps it's not surprising that a number of fashion models fall outside the realm of binary human sexuality. Several notable models identify as bisexual, whether they're known for their fierce runway struts or eye-catching editorial photographs. Some models who are bisexual are open about their relationships with men and women while other bisexual models never spoke about their same-sex affairs. Many of the most famous bisexual models are sex symbols for male and female fashion fans alike.
LOUD & PROUD: Where Are All The Bisexual Men In The Entertainment World?
Illustration by Ben Thomson. Amber Rose, the model and famed ex of Kanye West, recently stated that although she is attracted to men and women, she would not date a bisexual man. Despite this lingering stigma, the experiences of heterosexual women in committed relationships with bisexual men have never really been examined. But the new book Women in Relationships with Bisexual Men does exactly that. Co-authored by Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli, a lecturer in Social Diversity at Deakin University, and her co-researcher Sara Lubowitz, the work is based on the insights of 79 Australian women involved with bisexual men.
A quick straw poll around our office had us really scratching our heads trying to think of openly bi males in the entertainment industry, or current on-screen representations of them. That was it. If we see a guy with a girl, we perceive them as straight.
